#2 Book Beginnings & Friday 56

I have found something to replace the old First Page Fridays since that has been discontinued, but I found something that’s basically and dare I say, just a tad bit better.

Without further ado…

Rebecca Washington is a girl in control. Well, at least when it comes to acing her college classes. The rest of the time, she seems to be at the mercy of everyone else. Like when she’s dumped in front of her peers, hit on right afterwards by a jerk for some stupid bet, and then paired up with the same jerk for a lit project.

In order to maintain her perfect GPA, Rebecca will need to give a stellar presentation while ignoring the prodding eyes that will be staring at her. When her partner, Derek, starts to ease her fears of public speaking with his laid back attitude, she’s forced to confront her new feelings about him and his charming smile. Rebecca knows falling for a guy who teases her for being a prudish nerd can only end badly, but what if it’s just another thing out of her control?

First Sentence : “Rebecca Washington wasn’t used to a lot of public attention, nor did she particularly care for it.”

Thoughts : Right away you can tell that Rebecca is super shy, as if the title didn’t give the impression of that already. This is a pretty great sentence to start with because there’s (you guessed it) a public scene in which she is made a spectacle of and rightfully embarrassed. I’m definitely interested in seeing where it goes from there.

iBooks Page 56 : “Rebecca shook her head and stomped away. It was impossible to insult someone with such a big ego, and, what’s worse was that she felt like the dumb one. As if she were overreacting about what a dick he was,which she knew she wasn’t.”

You know, Rebecca is either innocent or naïve or a prude. I’m not sure which just yet, but I am enjoying the process of finding out and can’t wait to write the review.
