Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week I will share a list based on the topic provided by The Broke and the Bookish.
Enjoy and please feel free to join me, I’d love to hear your own lists on whatever topics are featured.
January 21: Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist (if you could make authors write about these things you would. Could be a specific type of character, an issue tackled, a time period, a certain plot, etc.)
1. More pregnant or single mom HEA’s I don’t know why but for some reason I love books where the female protagonist has is pregnant or has a kid and running from something, only to have a rough-edge, lumberjack-type man (idk why lumber-jack, I’m Canadian) come into the picture and show them that not all men are mistrustful, children hating douchebags.
2. The 1800’s in all it unhygienic glory. Is that bad? I love the time period because of the rules and structure but when you get down to it, how are all the main characters, their friends and family so hot, with perfect white teeth? Why are we not getting the sordid smelly truth; they couldn’t/didn’t bathe everyday so no they didn’t smell like flowers. Also, how are they so skinny, beautiful and glowing after having 5 kids? (OK and maybe I don’t want that, it’s not glamorous at all!)
3. Imperfectly Perfect Characters. Sometimes I get tired of reading about a character that looks perfect and is “perfect”. Can I get Sydney from “Maybe Someday” who isn’t outwardly “perfect” but still so down to earth and REAL that she seems perfect. Or how about Sophie Price from “Vain” who is physically perfect and a perfect bitch. <– classic mean girl. Yet you gotta love her.
4. The Hearing Impaired. Ever since “Switched at Birth” came into my life and then “Maybe Someday” I feel like there should be more contemporary hearing impaired books. “Maybe Someday” gave me a whole new perspective on love with a deaf person, which incidentally happens in RL. How cool is that, that a book mirrors RL attainable love? (note the sarcasm)
5. Bitches. I want to read about bitches. Or more importantly female protagonists that are real with themselves and us. The goody-too-shoes are all well and good, but the real world isn’t all full of goody-too-shoes. Show me someone who can be nice but accepts that they’re a bitch 85% of the time. Sophie Price from Fisher Amelie’s “Vain” is the perfect candidate.
6. An NA that focuses on JUST college. With the NA books making the rounds, I’m glad I get my fix of sociology/abuse novels but now I’m looking for ones that just focus on college and the MCs growth through 4 years of what should be the best time of our lives.
7. Accurate Historical Romance. Wouldn’t it be great if we read a historical romance that was historically correct? A history lesson wrapped up in a really good book, now that’s what I call learning!
It was hard trying to make it to 10. Before NA I would have had a list of more than 10 but I seem to be getting whatever other fix I would have put down through NA books.
What’s on your reading wishlist?
I am bored and tired of the cookie cutter girls. I want a girl who is not the nicest person in the world but who is interesting to read about. I think the only books I have read recently that have that is the Song of Ice and Fire Series and Gone with the Wind.

Great list! I also think it would be good to see more NA books about the college experience.

I have not, it’s on the bottom of my TBR list though. Should I bump it up?

Haha, reading about the unhygienic glory of the 1800s would be quite interesting. Nice list!

Imperfectly Perfect Characters. This so very much! I am so sick of perfection all around, especially because nobody is perfect. Some books go so far you’d think their characters poop rainbows.
Great list!
Happy reading!
